Over 167,000 pounds of ground beef distributed to restaurants across the U.S. recalled

Wolverine Packing Co., based in Detroit, has initiated a recall of more than 167,000 pounds of ground beef distributed to restaurants across the United States due to potential E. coli contamination, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

So far, 15 infection cases have been reported in Minnesota, with symptoms appearing between November 2 and 10. The affected products have expiration dates of November 14 for fresh items and an October 22 production date for frozen products, all bearing the establishment number EST. 2574B.

Authorities have urged restaurants to dispose of or return the affected products, which may still be stored in their refrigerators. Wolverine Packing emphasized its commitment to food safety and announced they are conducting an internal audit to review quality control processes.

The E. coli bacteria, commonly found in the intestines of humans and animals, can cause serious infections if ingested in large quantities, especially through contaminated ground beef, unpasteurized milk, fresh produce, or contaminated water. It is recommended to seek medical attention if symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, or diarrhea occur.
