A minor crash on Interstate 5 escalated into a violent assault. A bystander stepped in to help the victims, and the suspected attacker was arrested on attempted murder charges
A rear-end collision Sunday night on the Interstate 5 off-ramp at Tamarack Avenue escalated into a violent road rage incident that left two people hospitalized.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver of a black Chevrolet Colorado rear-ended a white Chevrolet Silverado that was stopped at a red light. After the crash, the suspect allegedly got out of his vehicle, assaulted the 22-year-old female driver, and then repeatedly stabbed the truck's 27-year-old male passenger.
A bystander's quick actions helped the victims escape and receive assistance while emergency crews responded to the scene. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where they are recovering from their injuries.
The suspect, identified as Chavez, was later located and arrested. He is facing charges of attempted murder and assault and remains in custody without bail pending his court appearance.
