The 31-year-old man was working when he was shot; police are investigating the homicide and no suspects have been arrested

A 31-year-old security guard died after being shot early Monday while working at Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach, according to the San Diego Police Department.

 

The shooting was reported shortly after 2 a.m. in the 4500 block of Ocean Boulevard, near Crystal Pier.

 

According to authorities, employees at a nearby bar heard gunshots and went outside, where they found the man suffering from serious injuries. The employees began providing first aid before police officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel arrived.

 

The victim was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Police said the man was unarmed and was working as a security guard at the pier. His identity has not been released pending notification of his family.

 

Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses while interviewing potential witnesses.

 

So far, police have not released a possible motive, and no suspects have been taken into custody. Authorities said they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.
