The National Weather Service is forecasting waves of up to 7 feet and strong rip currents, while a coastal flood advisory will remain in effect through Tuesday, Oct. 13

Dangerous conditions are expected along San Diego County beaches over the coming days, with elevated surf, strong rip currents and the possibility of minor coastal flooding during high tides.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), waves are expected to reach 3 to 5 feet, with sets potentially building to 7 feet. The Beach Hazards Statement will remain in effect through Friday night, Oct. 9.

A separate Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect through 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, as high tides combine with above-normal surf levels.

Low-lying areas near the coast could see minor flooding in parking lots, walkways and roads during periods of high tide. Some areas may also experience coastal erosion and isolated road closures.

High tides could reach between 6.5 and 7 feet during the morning and evening hours, increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying areas along the shoreline.

The elevated surf also poses a danger to swimmers and surfers, as strong rip currents can pull people away from shore and into deeper water.

Authorities are advising beachgoers to stay out of the water while hazardous conditions persist and to keep away from rocks, jetties and other structures near the shoreline.

Residents and visitors are also encouraged to check local beach conditions before heading to the coast, follow posted signs and pay attention to instructions from lifeguards.

People should never attempt to drive or walk through flooded areas and should respect any barriers or road closures put in place by authorities.

The advisories cover coastal areas of San Diego and Orange counties. Residents and visitors are encouraged to monitor weather updates throughout the coming days.
