The suspect fled after the attack; road closures and a heavy police presence have put residents in the area on alert

San Diego police are actively searching for a suspect involved in a stabbing that took place late Sunday night near the border of Paradise Hills and National City.

The incident was first reported around 11:30 p.m., according to San Diego Police Department (SDPD) Sgt. Ariel Savage. Officers were dispatched to Paradise Valley Hospital, where the victim had been taken for medical treatment.

According to Sgt. Savage, the victim sustained multiple stab wounds, though no further details about their condition were immediately available.
Responding officers were directed to the scene of the crime near the intersection of Winchester Street and Rachael Avenue. Upon arrival, SDPD and SWAT officers surrounded a home and began making announcements to the suspect, who was believed to be inside the residence.

However, after approximately an hour without a response, authorities determined the suspect was not in the home, Savage said. The search has since expanded to the surrounding area.

As a precaution, Rachael Avenue has been temporarily closed between Cumberland and Blueridge streets. Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area and use alternate routes while the situation remains active.
