Nemesio, the leader of the “Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación”
Just three months after being removed from the main list of fugitives by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in August 2023, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias "El Mencho," leader of the “Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación” (CJNG), has regained his place in the ranking. This modification constitutes the only alteration in the list, which also reflects the departure of a member of the Sinaloa Cartel.
In the consultation conducted on November 30, 2023, on the DEA's "Most Wanted Fugitives" web link, it was confirmed that 'El Mencho' has returned to the list, occupying the position left by Luis Javier Benítez Espinoza, known as 'El 14.'
Previously, 'El 14,' linked to 'Los Chapitos' of the Sinaloa Cartel, was accused by the Joe Biden administration of trafficking large quantities of fentanyl to the United States in the form of pills and powder. However, his presence on the list was removed after his reported murder in Culiacán, Sinaloa, on September 9.
It is worth noting that although 'El Mencho' had been removed from the list in August of this year, his exclusion did not mean that he ceased to be considered a fugitive by the U.S. government, but rather that he was no longer a priority. The complete list comprises 636 alleged criminals, and currently, the U.S. government offers a reward of 10 million dollars for information leading to the arrest or conviction of 'El Mencho.'
Despite 'El 14's departure, 'Los Chapitos' continue to lead the DEA's most-wanted list, with eight names linked to fentanyl trafficking. Alongside 'El Mencho,' other figures are listed, though a specific order is not specified:
- Yulian Andony Archaga Carias, identified as the leader of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang from Honduras.
- Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, leader of 'Los Chapitos.'
- Oscar Noe Medina González, in charge of overseeing the commanders and gunmen of 'Los Chapitos.'
- Silvano Francisco-Mariano and Carlos Omar Félix Gutiérrez, accused of operating clandestine fentanyl laboratories for the Sinaloa Cartel.
- Liborio Núñez Aguirre and Alan Gabriel Núñez Herrera, traffickers for 'Los Chapitos.'
- Kun Jiang and Chuen Yip, considered the main suppliers of fentanyl precursor chemicals for 'Los Chapitos.'
