Angelita León was shot in the face; she was a member of the 'Union and Strength for Our Disappeared Tecate' collective

Angelita León, a prominent activist dedicated to the search for missing persons in Tecate, met a tragic end on Thursday afternoon. She was fatally shot in her beauty salon situated in the Loma Alta neighborhood. The assailant, armed with a firearm, targeted her face, while an accomplice awaited their swift escape aboard a waiting vehicle.

León, a dedicated member of the "Union and Strength for Our Disappeared Tecate" collective, actively participated in search efforts for missing persons in the border area between Tijuana and Tecate, collaborating with other collectives and authorities.

According to the police report, the incident occurred at 13:15 hours, with Angelita found on the ground. The perpetrators fled the scene in a vehicle, which was later set ablaze near the IMSS hospital in the Maclovio Herrera neighborhood.

Angelita León's quest for justice was centered around finding José Juan Vázquez León, who disappeared in June 2018 in Tecate. The community mourns the loss of a passionate advocate committed to bringing closure to the families of the missing.
