The store would recall Marketside brand broccoli florets

Walmart has announced the recall of 12-ounce Marketside broccoli florets in 20 states after detecting contamination with listeria bacteria. Braga Fresh, the product’s manufacturer, reported on December 31, 2024, that although no illnesses have been reported, the measure aims to safeguard consumers' health.

The affected product is identified with UPC code "6 81131 32884 5," lot "BFFG327A6," and an expiration date of December 10, 2024. It was sold in states such as Texas, California, Arizona, Illinois, and Michigan. While it is no longer available in stores, consumers are urged to dispose of it immediately if they still have it at home.

Listeria can cause listeriosis, a disease ranging from mild gastrointestinal symptoms to severe infections in vulnerable individuals, such as pregnant women and older adults. In severe cases, it can lead to fatal complications or pregnancy-related issues.

The FDA advises consumers to discard the product and thoroughly clean any surfaces that may have come into contact with it to prevent cross-contamination. Immediate medical attention is recommended if symptoms occur, particularly for those at high risk.

This incident adds to previous Marketside recalls due to E. coli contamination, highlighting the need for stricter quality controls in the supply chain.
