The deceased person was a captain of CAL FIRE

Yolanda Marodi, accused of murdering her wife, CAL FIRE (San Diego Fire Department) Captain Rebecca Marodi, in Ramona, fled to Mexico shortly after the crime and remains at large, according to authorities.

The murder occurred on February 17 and was captured by a surveillance camera at the couple’s home. In the video, Rebecca is seen trying to escape while yelling, "Yolanda! Please!... I don’t want to die," to which the suspect responds, "You should have thought about that before."

Rebecca’s mother called 911 around 9 p.m. Officers found the victim with multiple stab wounds, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the investigation, a week before the crime, Rebecca had told her wife that she wanted to end their marriage.

Hours later, the suspect was seen crossing the border in her 2013 Chevy Equinox. Yolanda Marodi, who had previously served 13 years in prison for the 2000 killing of her husband, sent a message to a friend the day after the crime, saying, "We had a big fight, and I hurt her... I’m sorry."

Authorities believe her capture is only a matter of time, and if arrested in Mexico, she will be handed over to U.S. Marshals at the border.
