During the “Connecting the World, Constructing the Future” conference, presented in CETYS Universidad Campus Tijuana, the NAFSA CEO emphasized that every student of promise deserves access to global learning opportunities, regardless of location or field of study

“Every student of promise deserves an international education, even if they never leave their country,” said Dr. Fanta Aw, Executive Director and CEO of NAFSA: Association of International Educators, during her keynote speech at Connecting the World, Constructing the Future, a global dialogue on education and leadership hosted by CETYS University.

Dr. Aw shared her personal journey, highlighting how international education shaped her worldview from a young age.

“I studied in the French system, lived in the U.S., and realized that experiential learning in the American model was the perfect match for me,” she said. Inspired by her upbringing in a family of educators, she eventually left the corporate world to dedicate her life to advancing global education.

Representing an organization with over 11,000 members across 140 countries, Dr. Aw emphasized that international education is not limited to physical travel.

“Curriculum internationalization, virtual learning, and short-term abroad experiences are essential tools to ensure that students across disciplinesfrom engineering to the arts gain global and intercultural perspectives,” she noted.

Joined by CETYS University President Fernando León García, Dr. Aw underscored the shared mission of educational institutions to prepare the next generation of leaders.

“We need leaders who are empathetic, who see the world broadly, and who are committed to solving challenges that know no borders,” she concluded.
