At a press conference, Trump linked the decision to recent incidents of violence
The administration of President Donald Trump implemented a new immigration policy on Monday that bars entry to citizens from 12 nations and imposes strict travel restrictions on individuals from seven others. The president described the measure as a "necessary effort to protect national security."
Which Countries Are Affected?
* Complete Ban: Afghanistan, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Myanmar, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
* Severe Restrictions: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.
The policy took effect at 12:01 a.m. (Eastern Time) on June 9 and has reignited the debate surrounding Trump’s immigration agenda. During his election campaign, Trump pledged to reinstate measures similar to those he implemented during his first term—policies that were later rolled back by former President Joe Biden.
