Santa Ana winds and low humidity are complicating containment efforts

The "Border 2" fire has scorched 4,250 acres in the Otay Wilderness Area, reaching 10% containment. Over 700 firefighters are working to control the blaze.

According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, evacuation orders include areas near Otay Lakes Road to the north, State Route 94 and Dulzura to the east, and Lower Otay Lake to the west, including the Otay Open Space Preserve. State Route 94 has been closed at Otay Lakes Road, along with nearby roads such as Alta Road and Wueste Road, which leads to Camp Pio Pico, now under evacuation orders.

Additionally, the Olympic Training Center and communities west of the lake are under evacuation warnings. Temporary evacuation points include the Regal Edwards Cinemas Rancho San Diego in El Cajon and Southwestern College, which has also shifted to remote classes.

The Chula Vista Elementary School District suspended activities at Salt Creek, Camarena, Wolf Canyon, Olympic View, Liberty, Eastlake, Marshall, and Arroyo Vista schools. Schools in the Mountain Empire Unified and Warner Unified districts also remained closed on Friday.

Santa Ana winds and low humidity are complicating containment efforts, although cooler temperatures and possible weekend rain are expected to aid the fight. The use of bulldozers, hand tools, helicopters, and air tankers has led to progress in containment efforts.

A dense smoke plume is affecting Otay Mesa and nearby areas. Authorities urge residents to comply with evacuation orders and stay updated on the situation.
