Around 19 states, including California, are on alert

Authorities in San Diego have confirmed that two individuals fell ill after consuming nuts contaminated with E. coli, one of whom required hospitalization.

This warning comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an alert regarding an E. coli outbreak linked to the sale of organic nuts in 19 states, including California.

The nuts in question belong to Gibson Farms Inc. and were distributed in bulk containers starting from October 1st. They may have been repackaged and sold in individual bags or takeaway containers.

Local stores and cooperatives that received these shipments have recalled the product and sanitized their storage containers since May 3rd. Affected stores include Jimbos Naturally, Lazy Acres Market, Ocean Beach Co-Op, Frazier Farms Market, and Sun Organic Farm.

Symptoms of E. coli infection include diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach cramps within the first 3 to 4 days. The infection can lead to hospitalizations and even death. Individuals who have consumed these affected nuts are advised to contact their physician and discard the nuts while disinfecting any surfaces that came into contact with them.
