Two minors and two women were injured
A shooting incident has shaken El Vergel, a popular children's aquatic center in Tijuana, leaving multiple individuals injured. The attack, reported on July 10th, resulted in injuries to two women and two minors, prompting a swift police response and causing the center to temporarily close its doors amidst heightened security concerns. The perpetrators, described as three men with shaved heads and tattoos, remain at large, prompting a city-wide search. The incident has underscored ongoing safety challenges in the area, sparking community concern and a call for increased security measures at recreational facilities.
The initial report, anonymously phoned into 911, alerted authorities to gunfire at the location. Upon arrival, Municipal Police confirmed the incident and found the four victims.
The attackers, described as three dark-skinned men with shaved heads and tattoos, remain at large within the pool complex. One was seen in military-style shorts, while another wore a green shirt.
Municipal Police units are conducting an intensive search to apprehend the suspects, prompting heightened security measures and unsettling visitors at the popular recreational center.
Following the armed assault on Wednesday, El Vergel has decided to temporarily close its doors, citing safety concerns. In a statement released Wednesday afternoon, they expressed sorrow and frustration over the insecurity plaguing Tijuana, extending sincere apologies to all affected parties.
"We will strive to regain the trust of our customers by implementing enhanced security and other protocols to ensure that El Vergel remains a safe place for families," the company added.
However, this morning, El Vergel announced via social media that it would remain closed until further notice, without providing further explanation.
Mayor Montserrat Caballero stated that the incident was an ambush orchestrated by the assailants. She confirmed the arrest of an individual, described as a family man with a criminal record, who reportedly left the scene after defending against the attackers, possibly in a protective act.
"This incident has sparked concern among the population amid a recent surge in violence, resulting in injuries to at least four minors in separate incidents," Mayor Caballero remarked.
