October 27 has become a day dedicated to remembering and honoring deceased animals, recognizing the deep bond formed between pets and their families.

Pets, whether dogs, cats, parrots, or other exotic animals, become special members of the household. Their loss creates a significant void, and this day allows families to pay tribute to their companions in life, just as they do for their loved ones.

Although it is not an official celebration on the calendar, more and more people are participating in this touching tradition. To honor their deceased pets, families can create small altars for the Day of the Dead, which may include:

Photograph of the Pet: A portrait is essential for remembering the happy moments shared together.
Offerings: Providing the pet's favorite foods, such as their preferred kibble or a cherished toy, is a meaningful way to remember them.
Candles: It is believed that candles illuminate the path for the souls of our pets to find their way home.
Flowers: Traditionally, flowers guide the souls on their journey back.
Water and Salt: Essential elements to purify and quench the spirit's thirst.

Celebrating the Day of the Dead for pets is a beautiful way to honor the love and loyalty they provided us. Through these altars, families can continue to feel their presence and remember their lives with joy, ensuring they will always be part of our story. Additionally, some families choose to place animal-shaped cookies on the altar, adding a special touch to this emotional celebration.
